  DRILL BOX       Measuring Speed
Typing speed is usually measured by the number of average words typed in one minute. Every 5 strokes (letters, spaces, and/or returns) are considered one average word. You can use the rulers under (some) drills to count the number of average words. We usually have 50 strokes (=10 average words) on each line, hence if you type 2 lines in 1 minute, your speed is 20 wpm (words per minute).
Counting Errors
Errors are counted using the total of incorrectly typed words (not average words!)
We plan to add automatic error checking and counting in the future, for now you will have to count the errors yourself.
- Count only one error against one word, no matter how many errors the word contains.
- A word is an error if the spacing after it is incorrect.
- A word is an error if the punctuation after it is incorrect.
- Each omitted word is an error.
- Each incorrectly repeated word is an error.
- A failure to follow directions in spacing, indenting, extra lines, etc. is an error.
Mini Drill
Type once, then repeat at a faster rate.

Then take a 1-minute timing (i.e. count the number of words you can type in 1 minute) and count your errors.
